I'm new to Medifast but not to tofu. Can we use liquid smoke? If so, slice tofu thinly - firm type - and brush with liquid smoke. Bake in oven at 325 for an hour.
Also, I put tofu in a food processor and blend it smooth. Season it with whatever you like... garlic, onion powder, etc. For Medifast , L&G I would season it like dip and dip it with celery.
Mmmmm... good idea. think I'll get some....
I like to coat my Tofu with corn starch and fry it. Doing this helps the oil not to soak in the TF and makes it nice & crispy. It's very tasty with what ever sauce I put on it after...
"Mac" n Cheese:.
12 oz firm tofu, drained well.
8 oz lf or ff cheddar cheese.
1/2 cup eggbeaters (or maybe use Medifast eggs?).
1/4 cup lf half and half.
1/4 tsp onion powder.
Dash cayenne pepper.
1/4 tsp garlic powder.
1/4 tsp dry mustard powder.
Paprika and parmesan cheese for garnish.
Drain tofu well and mix all ingredients (except last 2) well, mashing tofu but leaving a few chunky bits..
Place in baking dish sprayed with Pam spray.
Bake at 350F for 45 minutes (top should be golden brown).
Garnish with parmesan and paprika.
Makes 4 servings: 173 cal, 5 carb, 4.3 fat. I suppose you could make this as just 2 servings and still be ok also......
I didn't see this! I just posted a great tofu option in the recipes thread. It's called Garlic bread anyone?.
I love baking tofu!..
1 lb Firm tofu, mashed.
1/2 cup wheat germ.
1/3 cup chopped fresh parsley,.
Or 1 1/2 tbs dried parsley.
1/4 cup onion,.
Or 1 tbs onion powder.
2 tbs nutritional yeast (optional).
1/2 tbs dijion mustard.
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder.
1/4 teaspoon of black pepper.
2 tablespoons oil.
Preheat the oven to 350 F.
Mix together all the ingredients except the oil. Use the oil to coat the loaf pan. Press the tofu mixture into the oiled loaf pan, and bake for about 1 hour. Let cool for 10 minuts. Garnish with ketchup and parsley. This is good sliced and fried for sandwiches the next day..
I just read your recipe - can't wait to try it!!..
Thanks for the recipe ideasI'm on maintenance.
But fyi, I don't think either corn starch or wheat germ are included in 5&1. I believe the carbs would be too high for both of those so you might want to check that with Nutritional support...
Just made a really good Tofu meal. I'm a new Vegetarian and not a big fan of Tofu (b/c of taste and nutritional reason, but this was good..
7oz firm Organic Tofu (doubt Organic makes a difference in taste) marinated in "Wing It" Authentic Buffalo Style Chicken Wing Sauce (www.wingit.com). Although the wing sauce has 0 Calories for a Tsp, I didn't go nuts b/c I'm sure at some point (e.g., Tbsp) it startsbut I marinated it in about 3 Tbsp of wing sauceits low carb. I sauted broccoli and mushrooms in a tsp of Olive Oil, added the marinated tofustirred it all up for a bit. Into the plate with about 16 grams of Gorgonzola Cheese sprinkled over it. Wow, it was so yummy. I do miss chicken wings, but this is a fine replacement for the new V Me...
Tofu and hot sauce take away all hot wing cravings for me!!!! and I feel so much better I do not miss the "so full I have to unzip my pants feeling" happy veggies = happy life.
I just sauted up some tofu with a light spray of PAM, some garlic, and then added some Sriracha sauce (you know, the chili sauce with the green cap?). About a Tbsp maybe, try not to use too much, it's super hot! IT WAS AMAZING! To finish it up, I then removed the tofu from the pan, sauted up some veggies with a little more Pam (used broccoli and broccoli slaw), threw the tofu back in when the veggies were very nearly done to warm the tofu back up and mix it and topped with some cilantro once removed from the heat. I'm a meat eater, but my sister is vegan so I do some tofu dishes. But, let me tell you, I think tofu and chili sauce is my new heaven some nice warming heat, but not too spicy!..
