Add tabasco and/or 1 tbsp onions. (Keep in mind this counts as 2 condiments)...
I used twice as much water, half a bullion cube and some Choula(sp?) hot sauce, and I liked it! It became more of a soup than a thick chili, wich I was OK with..
(Count your condiments)...
I tried cooking it in the crock pot but I tried several times and just could not enjoy the chili. Therefore I do not order it anymore. I know you will get tons of great advice on here...
I forgot to mention something: I cook mine on the stove..
I add the powder and the water/buillion, stir well and bring it to a boil. Then I turn off the burner and cover the pot wit a lid, and let it stand for an hr or so, before reheating. I think it makes it better...
I use diet coke or diet root beer instead of water. I add 1/2 c of tomatos, 1/2 teas of cumin, and bring it to a boil then simmer for a while and it is yummy. YOu could add the morning stars crumbles to it or ground beef and add more veggies too to make it your lean and green.
I do it up with extra water and add salsa too..
I make it on top of the stove and add salsa!! I have also heard of people grinding it up in their Magic Bullet and then using it as a coating on chicken breasts before they bake them in the oven! I haven't tried that yet...but it does sound pretty good!..
I pour 1 cup HOT water in tall container. I use a Ziplock one. I let it soak 1 hour before I cook it. Then I microwave it for 2 1/2 min. I take it out and cover it for a few minutes. When it is cool enough to eat, I add my condiments.
Onions, chili powder, garlic powder, sea salt, etc.) My condiments differ every time I make it!..
Diet soda?! Really? Wow, I would never have thought of that! Does it not make it too sweet? I like my chili savory...
I use 1/2 tsp of "Better than Bullion" either the beef base or the chili base, add some fresh salsa and do let it sit as long as possible. I do also add 3/4 cup water too. letting it soak or sit a while gives it more of a meaty consistancy..
I hated the Chili too!!! I had read about people cooking it on the stove and I have to tell you, it made ALL the difference! I cook two packets at once with 1 cup of water, extra chili powder, and garlic powder. I cook it on medium heat until it becomes a little thick (15 minutes with stirring?). Then I separate it and put it in the fridge.
You can add some ground buffalo (portion of your lean), chopped tomatoes (portion of your green), low-fat cheese (portion of your lean), and even a teaspoon of sour cream (1 condiment). I have had it this way two days in a row now and actually would order it again!! Never thought I would say that!!.
I dont think it makes it sweet. I add cumin and onion powder or garlic powder sometimes, but it changes the flavor completely. Try it.
I love the chili! I add 3/4 to 1 cup of water instead of a half cup, and then I add 1/2 cup of canned tomatoes (1 green serving) along with chili powder, a little salt and a dash of hot sauce. Mmmm!..
Does anyone know if there are beans in the chili?..
I tried all the tips for doctoring up the chili before and nothing ever made it palatable for me. I love good chili but Medifast can't come close enough for me to bother with it. I threw it all away. I'd rather order some of my favorite Medifast foods!.
One day if my tastebuds change I guess I could try just 1 packet... but I'd miss having tortilla chips with it...
I found this recipe:.
1 packet Medifast Homestyle Chili.
1/2 cup white mushrooms, sliced.
1 tsp olive oil.
Creole Seasoning, to taste.
2 Tbs Salsa.
Place the mushrooms, oil and Creole Seasoning in a Ziplock-type seal and steam bag. Cook for 2 minutes. Prepare the Medifast Chile, then microwave for 2 1/2 minutes. Add the mushroom mixture and the Salsa to the chili. Microwave for one additional minute. Eat when cool...
Thanks for all of the suggestions! I am cooking some on the stovetop now for lunch tomorrow. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!!..
There have been many threads discussing chili in the last few weeks, give it a search. The suggestions I liked were to add Diet Dr. Pepper v. water (I add a little hot sauce as well). Makes a nice hot and sweet combo. Also bake or microwave into a biscuit.
To make a smooth mixture vs. crunchy - blend up the soup so it's all powder. I use my bullet blender...
I cook the chili either 1 or 2 pkts at a time in a small crockpot with the recommended 1/2 Cup water per serviing. I also add garlic salt and chili powder. I let it sit in the crockpot for 1 1/2-2 hrs and stir periodically! It looks and tastes amazing when prepared this way! MMmmm. It also helps to spray the crockpot w/ Pam or similar, before adding ingredients. Helps with clean up!..
I hated the chili but I started doing 7 servings at a time in the crockpot. I add 3 cups of water and one can of diced tomatoes, chili powder, onion powder and garlic. It really does taste GOOD in the crockpot. something happens to it and it thickens nicely and you can almost taste the "meat" lol. Oh, I get crockpot liners because Medifast anything is like cement... and I cook it on low for about 3hrs...
