I have a couple of ways that I fix soup and shakes and the oatmeal. There's a recipe for muffins I can send you that uses oatmeal, a shake and egg beaters. The soup: I always add a little more water than they call for, let it set in the water for a couple hours before I cook it AND I add a little Mrs. Dash or Johnny seasoning for flavor. (I don't add extra water to the chili but do everything else). The pre-soaking helps to soften the veggies and meat in the soups.
Plus it gives you more volume and takes longer to drink/eat. You can pick up some of the sugar free syrups (the kind you might find for coffee) to add to some of the shakes i.e. coconut to the vanilla...:0) You can go to this website for different recipes. I have tried the muffins but not the cake. Also, my health coach fixed stuffed mushrooms with shredded low fat cheese, seasonings and baked them....yum.
I had a gal that gives tasting parties once a month and she fixes a couple recipes for everyone to taste, so you might see if there's a group in your neighborhood that you could attend. REALLY the food is pretty good...I love the scrambled eggs (try chopping a little spinache or adding a little shredded low fat mozarrelle cheese + spices.) You'll get by this first week and be fine...just hang in there. I've heard the brownies are suppose to be good...I plan on buying those the next time I order....Stay strong!! Blessings, SJ..
Thanks! I'm definitely going to try letting the soup sit before cooking. I have to get out and get some sugar free syrups too. I dont have a coach but I think I need one...
1 Packet Shake, Any Flavor.
1/2 tsp Non-Aluminum Baking Powder.
2 Tbs Egg Substitute or Egg Whites.
2 Tbs Water.
- tsp Flavored Extract (Optional).
Spray a small bowl with non-stick cooking spray. Mix all ingredients and pour into sprayed bowl. Nuke for 1 minute or bake at 350F for 15-20 minutes...
I agree on letting both the soups and the shakes sit for an hour or two before I eat them. All the Medifast foods seem to benefit from some soak time. Also, the shakes are great hot or cold, which is nice. Sometimes you just need a change and a hot banana shake is surprisingly good...
If you get a coach, please be very cautious. Many give out wrong or incomplete information...
MT is right about the coaches, mine sends me a joke email once in a while and I haven't heard from her since May 1! I asked her for recipes and that seemed to end the relationship!!!..
Ditto on the coach thing. My friend is doing Medifast with me and she has a coach that has sent her recipes that are so obviously off plan!..
Something that really helps with the soup is I bought a little thermos, at 7 am I put boiling hot water in with my soup and also 1/4 cube of bouillon I like the tomato chicken and at noon it is so yummy! I just let it sit in the thermos until lunchtime. I eat all of it and it's very satisfying. Perfect temp and texture. I got the idea from another member here and I can't eat my soup any other way...
I don't have a coach but after only a few days of being on the boards I am overwhelmed (in a good way) of how many wonderful and positive people I have met with so many great tips and ideas! I would choose this board over a coach but that's my personal opinion. There are also quite a few MF's that I met that note in his/her profile 'health coach' with an email address you may want to contact one of them. Good luck!..
My favorite shake is made with the dark chocolate or dutch chocolate shake mix. I make 6 oz. of espresso and set it in the fridge to get cold. For an afternoon meal, I get my medi shaker bottle and add the espresso (6 oz of cold coffee works well too, so save some from the coffe pot that morning), the shake mix and 2 tbl of SF vanilla syrup and shake it really well. I then add 3/4 cup crushed ice and shake some more. I flip the lid and stick a straw in and it's like a coffee house treat for me! I love it! And btw, the brownies are really good!..
Hang in there. The foods take a while to acquire a taste for. I take a shake and put it in the blender with a little ice and blend it for about 1 minute to make it extra thick and it tastes like a milkshake. As for the soups soaking does help them a lot.
Once you get to order your next time you will know what you like and what you don't.
Hang in there!..
