No more shipping to Canada. No notice. No options... I'm out. Great!.

And what cracks me up is that the Medifast ads still pop up on the local free ads website here in Saskatchewan, nice one MF..

Just because this program works, and because I'm so nearly a winner here I have mine shipped to a US address and then sent on, it's a PITA because it takes forever, but a girl has to do what a girl has to do...

Starting multiple threads about it probably isn't the way to keep positivity in your life.

Search for "Canada" on the board. I believe a few people have found workarounds. I'm sure it is extremely frustrating when there is a product you'd like to buy from another country but they don't ship there anymore. I actually have had the same problem but in reverse (Canadian products but don't ship to US), so I hear you. Luckily I found a workaround. I hope you can as well...

I'm not sure if this would work and it might cost a little extra money, but maybe you could have your order shipped to a friend in the US and in turn, have the friend ship it to you! ^_^ I hope you are able to figure something out! <3..

Kurzwiel, I started 3 threads... It would've been nice if I'd found a thread so I at least knew that there was no shipping. I bet you'd be really ticked if you called tomorrow and they told you that you couldn't get anymore food, I'm down 3lbs this week and now I'm out..

This is a new policy within the last two weeks..

Myungsunkim22, thank you!..

Was it really necessary to create three threads? Honestly...

Did you by any chance ask why the change in policy? Was it due to the cost, customs, the shipping companies? I agree that more notice would be very helpful and have already passed that suggestion along...

Holly.....I sent you a pm........

I know it is frustrating!!!!..

Incorrect. There was a very long thread about it started on April 22. It is unfortunate you didn't see it then. Here is the thread - maybe it has some ideas for you to help get the product you want..

And yes, I would be disappointed if a company could no longer ship to me for some reason. However, as with most companies, I wouldn't necessarily be shocked when international shipping became more hassle than it was worth for them.

As I mentioned before, people have found workarounds when it has been really important to them. The burden of dealing with international shipping was no longer feasible for MF, but if it is important to you, you can find a way to handle it. Perhaps there is a US health coach that wants to help you out by ordering and re-shipping. At least they have some incentive.

By the way, starting multiple identical threads is often known as "flooding" and is pretty bad board etiquette...

I know someone else from Canada who knew about this over a month ago, so the information was out there somewhere obviously.

I can understand your frustration, but there are ways around it. I wish you luck in finding them and remaining positive...

Here is information from the thread I linked, directly from Medifast on April 22:.

It actually doesn't have anything to do with the charges and fees. It's a regulatory issue. Medifast is not authorized to ship products directly to anyone in Canada, so the decision to stop was not our own..

It sounds like it is prohibited for them to be shipping food/dietary supplements into Canada per Canadian law and regulations. The problem is with your government, not with Medifast.

I'll post this on all 3 threads so you don't miss it..

Well, I think that TOTALLY SUCKS!.

ANy friends or family in the US you can ship to and forward?..

There are lots of work arounds..... but posting this thread in 100 places is not one of them..... instead of whining, get creative and start looking around for work arounds....

Ebay is one, other online ordering is another.....

You could even start a company with a us address, and work on exporting, or you could go complain to your own government, but quit cluttering up these boards.....

I know you're frustrated, so go post in one place, and vent......

When I talked to them on the phone, they told me a couple of weeks. I made a mistake in saying two weeks. The point is not how long, just that I am feeling annoyed because I wasn't aware. Never thought to check for a post to see if there was still shipping since I've ordered for years. So yes, the posts are out there, I just didn't know..

I was also told on the phone it was to do with customs, not gov't. Of course it's not the fees, the customer pays that..

I just wish I'd known.

I'm sorry that 3 threads FLOODS the boards and I am of such poor etiquette. You've read all 3of them, but really you don't have to open them. I'm totally good with that.

Some people visit one board or the other. Obviously I didn`t visit the board the original post was on (haven`t looked at it). I WAS visiting the recommiters board... would`ve been a great place to know I couldn`t get product. If I just went to the general board ... well you get the picture, not EVERY Canadian gets to every board.

No need to post on all three of my posts... I am obviously checking all of them. One will be fine...

Ebay has a lot of brand new Medifast products. I know I'm not supposed to post this type comment on the forum, but for those who are no longer allowed to buy directly from MF, it is potentially a viable option. Perhaps there are some Canadian suppliers/sellers or those who can get around this regulation?..

Heather, I think you accidentally confused 3 with 100.

I don't think I whined... I am frustrated and angry, didn't see any whining in my post..

No need to open them if you find it offensive and to be such huge faux pas to post there..

General... I missed it there, so thought maybe other Canadians may like to know..

Recommitters... was posting there. Was getting support and on track there. That was "my current" board. Letting people there who were supporting me know that I am out for now.

THinking Positive... not feeling that way right now. Would seem like a logical place to post..

Anyhow, sorry for all of the HUGE trouble I've caused some of you by being rude and posting 3 times...

I have peeked at eBay. I was hoping I could order there but they are selling a box of 7 meals for $5 with shipping at $39. Not logical. It just becomes difficult to get what I "like" but I may keep watching and hope something comes up.

Thanks for the great idea...

Quite a lot of people wont ship to Canada on ebay, so it can take a lot of searching to find the right one, and you don't see that many Medifast products actually in Canada. It's a pain whichever way you do it...

That sucks. I am originally from Canada and can understand the pain of things not being shipped to Canada or paying INSANE amounts of fees. You could check out diet direct, (product line is wonder slim )its not the same but it's similar and I am fairly sure they ship to Canada just not for free. You have to add vitamins to their program though...

I think you found a product that worked well for you and now it's unavailable. I don't think you meant to be offensive. Just keep positive. There are solutions. Don't despair! I am sure you will come up with a solution.

Best of luck to you!!..

Its awesome to see someone from Saskatchewan randomly on the internet- I am from Saskatoon myself!..

Thanks so much goin4agoal2010. Off to have a run!.

Have a super day fellow MFer's...

So very sorry :-(.

I can't change it for you, but I "hear" your frustration, and send a big hug :-)..

Holly,.

This sucks!!!!!! I hate when you have ordered something from another country and then all of a sudden you can't get it because of someone in government, on one side or the other got their head up their butt and decides that the product is not good enough or that the product is too good for the other country. Had this happen with other items I loved from Italy.

Someone had a good idea. Do you know anyone in the US who medi can ship to and then on to you? Maybe ebay or craigslist. Though I have to admit, I am a little afraid to buy it off these two sites, but other people on the boards seem to like them. As far as posting on other discussion boards, that is what they are here for and someone on another board might have a great idea that we did not here. Besides, who knows who is on the other boards, could be someone from Canada who is finding out early about this issue and can look for alternatives early.

Good luck with this shipping issues. I hope it works out for you...

I agree with others re ebay. Most of the time the shipping is not out of line. The products cost about the same as purchasing from MF. There is a good variety and the items are not expired. If you don't want to purchase through ebay, buy the NEW Atkins book. I am a 100% Medifast follower, but I have used the Atkins plan in the past and it is very good and works on the same principals.

They have revised the amounts and types of fats that should be eaten. Good luck...

Isn't customs gov't run in most countries?.

Something for us to ask ourselves:.

Is informing the members about this being handled the best way possible? Possibly not. Is this a willy nilly decision by Medifast meant to hurt customers? Probably not. Is this a decision based on legal requirements that are out of Medifast's control, yet they must comply with? Most definitely..

I'm not Canadian, but I did read the thread after the link to it was posted here. I hope that some of the suggestions there will turn out to be a solution for you to keep getting MF. I did call Medifast & request that they post an announcement on the Medifast Bulletin Board here. If any one here has any positive, solution-producing suggestions, I'm sure that they would be welcomed by everyone this affect...

I totally agree with you. That post was uncalled for and rude...

Holly...your frustration is received with a warm hug & a praer that you'll figure it out. Best of luck to you my dear! Kurzeil...I don't think that the boards are the best place to lash out another Medifast member. We are all striving to achieve the same thing! Even if we don't agree with someones opinion, there are tactful ways to address the issue. Maybe a PM or a message directly to Holly would have gotten a better response. The only reason I am posting it directly on this thread is because your responses are on this thread. And old & new Medifast members should know that this is NOT the way we treat one another. Have a blessed day!..

The irony is stunning. Whatever. I made suggestions for her to find workarounds, links to useful information, and a response directly from Medifast. Some people are so worked up about something that they refuse to see a logical response and instead lash out themselves and claimed they were "screwed" by Medifast when that wasn't the case at all...

I don't think you have to justify your posts...we are all here as sound boards.

It I am sure is frustrating ...I would check ebay...

Holly, I am soooo thankful that the member that posted the above quoted post isn't in charge of these boards, nor does she speak for one person other than herself. You have every right to be frustrated and you also have a right to inform other Canadians of this problem, through these boards, so they can revise their plan to make the most of the packets they have left..

You can lose weight with or without MF. It will just be more difficult without MF. Keep your chin up girl!!! You'll figure this out...

Thank you SO much for all of those who took the time to kindly support me in a time when I needed it..

I really appreciate it..

I think I have a solution. There are "forwarding companies" who specialize in this... accepting mail, packages etc and forwarding across the border. I have found many online and the rates are fairly reasonable.

Thanks again!..

Whatever the case, hollyn needs her Medifast NOW!!!.

Hollyn-I would take a look at Kurzweil's links because she seems to be pretty sharp when it comes to all things MF..

It doesn't matter if WE knew-hollyn DID NOT know, and it's assinine to keeping beating this dog to death over "Should Have's".

Good luck to you Hollyn-I hope this situation rectifies itself pretty quickly...

I am glad to heat that Holly. I hope it works out for you. Best of luck!!!..

I am so sorry about your situation especially because when I am stressed and upset it is very hard not to use food for comfort. I hope this isn't the case for you. I hope you are doing okay and that you find another way to keep using MF. I see many suggestions on the boards and hope one works for you..

This is a good place to vent frustration because so many of us would have an idea of how you might feel. Keep posting, but you may have to read replies selectively.

Warm regards,.

Jody..

Where there's a will, there's a way!! Glad you found something that will work for you!!..

I'm a little shocked because this problem first rose a month ago. I do have a way to make this work if anyone is interested..

MF did not stop shipping due to Canadian regulation. The product is not illegal. The truth is no one knows why this happened..

Anyhow....I am here to tell you....there is a way.......

Holly,.

I work in a longstanding law firm in Bradenton, Florida. I only tell you that so you have confidence in me. You can ship to my address and I will forward it to you in Canada. Do you think this arrangement will work?..

Della-This is SO KIND of you-what a lovely person you are!.

And P.S... I've got a Beach Home right down the Coast from you-on Manasota Key in Englewood. When I pop down there next, I'll stand in the surf and face north towards Bradenton-then raise my Medifast Dutch Chocolate Shake in tribute to your thoughtfulness...

I have plenty of criticisms of the way that Medifast does business, but try to be clear: Medifast didn't screw you, the Canadian government decided that you needed to be protected from buying the product...

I'd also like to point out to those of you discussing private shipments that you're discussing breaking the law in a public venue. It might be wiser to take that particular discussion to private email, for your own protections...

There are TONS of deals on ebay,... and some really great prices. Just try searching different ways; "Medifast," "Medifast Bars;" "Medifast food.".

Good luck!..

WOW I did not realize this I am back on Medifast to lose a few extra pounds I have gained recently and am glad I ordered some back up food, now that I know I can't get anymore makes it all the more important that I use the last of my food very carefully and on plan..

I sure am glad I lost the bulk of my weight when they could deliver, I guess I have to look into other options that are available in Canada..

Very sorry to hear about this Della I would be really upset if this came out of the blue also.. Good luck in finding another option that works for you..

Sheila..

You are wrong. This is not against the Canadian government or law! I am getting my Medifast through TSFL and have no issues with government agencies. There is nothing illegal! I know this because I am Canadian and I have been getting steady shipments since 2008 through TSFL. Do not say it is a legal issue because it is most definitely NOT. Canadians were left high and dry without any form of a statement. Imagine going to place your next order and finding out oh....whoops....we can't do that anymore. Everyone had a right to be told formally...

I agree...and I am in Canada. Also there is nothing illegal about discussing shipments on the board...no need to scare people. This is a free society and people have the right to ship things to other people...it is not drugs or contraband. My goodness...it's Canada!..

There *may* be a difference between something being "illegal" and something being "not approved for import as a dietary supplement or diet aid." It works both directions US -> Canada and Canada -> US, just like with other drugs and dietary supplements.

Interesting that you can order through TSFL, since they are owned by Medifast. I actually think you are incorrect about ordering from TSFL - from their site: "Does Take Shape For Life ship to Canada and other countries?.

Take Shape For Life cannot ship Medifast products to Canada (or other countries). Please contact the Client Contact Center at (800) 572-4417 if you have any questions about our shipping policy. ".

Do you place the order through your coach, or does it go directly to TSFL? If your coach is ordering it for you, she may be bypassing the restriction somehow (like ship to her and then she ships it on to you).

If there is no problem ordering through TSFL, then I don't see any reason for anyone to be freaking out... seems like the easiest solution of them all, and it is still right from Medifast.

I absolutely believe that Medifast has been restricted by the Canadian government from shipping in a supplement. Why would we disbelieve Medifast, who has stated it themselves and only stands to GAIN by shipping to Canada, but we should believe you guys, who have no reasoning to back up that Medifast would be lying about it??..

OK, You know I don't fully understand WHY ther is an issue with Medifast being shipped over the border, my TSFL order goes to my coach then she ships it north, has done for 18 months with no issue..

I've ordered stuff from ebay and it has come up with no issue, both before and after Medifast stopped shipping..

So I really don't care at this point WHO is responsible, what I do care about is that spome folk just don't seem to understand the strength of shock and frustration that us Canucks feel when suddenly we find out that something that WAS OK to ship, suddenly isn't..

IF there had been a public announcement,.

"Due to changes in policy we are sorry that from X date we will no longer be able to ship to Canada".

We would have far less issue..

So please for lucky folk south of the border, PLEASE just try and imagine how you would feel if you went to order your next months Medifast supply just to be told NO....just how would you feel?.

So yes, you know we are looking for helpful suggestions, as most of us are female we're looking for people to give us ((((HUGS))))) and for you guys to say "we can understand how you feel".

And please understand that it rubs us up the wrong way when people seem to be saying that Medifast is beyond reproach in all things, and it's all our own fault!!!!!!!!!!.

OH, And great post Sandra, a big THUMBS UP for that one...

Here you go...courtesy of the Canadian Food Inspection Website. Medifast would be required to do or modify the following:.

(A) In the absence of a defined method for determining the glycemic index of each food, statements like "Low glycemic index", "non-glycemic", and "Glycemic Index = 10" are not acceptable..

I'm looking at a bag of pretzels with "low glycemic index" right now..

(B) Foods Represented as Part of a Weight Reduction Diet.

Under the Regulations, statements or claims, including brand names and trade-marks, that imply that a food is for weight reduction are limited to certain foods. Manufacturers must ensure that their foods meet the criteria set out in subsection B.24.003(3), FDR which states:.

No person shall label, package, sell or advertise a food in a manner likely to create an impression that a food is for use in a weight reduction diet unless that food is:.

1. a meal replacement that meets the compositional requirements contained in B.24.200;.

2. a prepackaged meal;.

3. a food sold by a weight reduction clinic to clients of the clinic for use in a weight reduction program supervised by staff of the clinic; or.

4. a food represented for use in a very low energy diet that meets the compositional requirements contained in section B.24.303.

Foods represented as being for a weight reduction diet that do not meet at least one of the above conditions would be considered in contravention of the FDR..

Since Medifast claims to be for weight reduction (primary purpose), they cannot sell to you online because they would not comply with #3 about sold by a clinic to clients of the clinic and supervised by the clinic..

(C) Meal replacements and prepackaged meals for use in weight reduction diets are required to carry the statement; "USEFUL IN WEIGHT REDUCTION ONLY AS PART OF AN ENERGY-REDUCED DIET / UTILE POUR PERDRE DU POIDS SEULEMENT DANS LE CADRE D'UN RGIME TENEUR RDUITE EN NERGIE". (See B.24.202(e) or B.24.203(b), FDR).

Medifast products do not carry this disclaimer..

Can we stop the whining now? I understand you are frustrated and disappointed and will admit the Medifast could have gone about this differently or at least made a public announcement. However, there is no guarantee that this ban will stay in place. I haven't finished reading all of it (and probably won't) but it may just be a case of label changes. Once those are adjusted, Medifast may be able to ship. Specifics would have to come from MF, so I'd say contact them directly..

Throwing comments around the boards does nothing to help you get your food. Those of us who sympathize lose that feeling when the comments never end..

I hope you find another resource either a way to get Medifast or another program you like. I really do. But...here's the link to the CFI website...feel free to check behind me..

Emma..

Great post, Emma. I would have never have known where to find it, so what a great resource you provided to people north of the border.

As I've stated before, there have been Canadian products I wanted to order before, that didn't ship across the border because of FDA labeling issues, so I do understand the frustration. It's the "Medifast screwed me" and "Medifast is lying about it being because of regulations" that is irritating, because it is clearly untrue...

I just want to send hugs out to everyone who's feeling panicked. I know for me, my weight sometimes feels like a life and death situationand for many of us, that's no exaggerationso I totally understand..

Please don't lose hope. There has to be a way to make this work. The best idea I've heard so far is to get a really dependable health coach who is willing to accept and forward shipments. There are some coaches for whom Medifast is a full-time career who would happily do this for you. I even know one coach who opens up all the boxes and just packs envelopes to make the shipping less expensive for her customers..

I live in Canada myself, but don't actually don't use a health coach anymore. I order off eBay and have my food shipped to a convenience store in Washington state. Luckily I live right on the border so I can just drive down to pick it up. The store charges me $3 per shipment.

There have been times, though, when something has gone wrong, and when I get freaked out, my first response is to go off plan. I'm that wobbly!.

And once I'm off, it's sooooo hard to get back on an even keel...So I totally understand your stress...

I'm sorry guys....but rules or no rules....I still get my MF! No one causes a fuss. It passes through the border without incident. Its all just stupid..

AND I know that this is NOT the reasoning behind the stoppage because as I said....The canada border continues to let my shipments pass..

Think what you may......

There is a difference between individual shipments being able to pass the border, shipped by an individual, and a company being told they can no longer systematically ship to Canada on a mass scale.

Glad you are able to get your food. I hope other Canadians are able to find a creative workaround like you have. I personally am not a big fan of a lot of the FDA/FDR regulations to "protect" us, I'd totally be doing the same thing!..

I am so sorry! There's always e-bay.. But- I totally understand your frustration...

Holly jusy be careful as you may find your package returned to your forwarder, as they alone with anyone else out side canada must list on a customs declaration what is in the box..

So if Medifast cant send it quite often nor can anyone else, as it goes against your governments import export laws.....

I do hope you are able to find a work around but I would strongly suggest you contact customs directly and find it out as it would be a shame for your package to sit dead at customs or have it returned for to the second shipping company who would not refund you the second cost of reshipping to you, and they would charge you again to return it to MF, by which time you may only be able to get a merchandise credit as a posed to a refund..

Also speaking as a ebay business owner there are many many people who will NOT ship to any foriegn country as there is no way to assure the item had gotten there and many people sad as this is lie that the item never arrived even when it has, and by ebays / paypals new strict policy the seller/shipper is required to make sure the item arrives or issue a FULL refund, and yes this includes the shipping they paid as well, and ebay/paypal had access you to accounts and can take the funds as they deem fit (its in the usuer policy which is ever changing)..

OKay just go on Ebay for your food then. DONE!..

Wow, there are an awful lot of people here who seem to enjoy jumping all over someone who was in a state of momentary panic. Was it reallly necessary to castigate her and cell her a "whiner?" It takes a lot of mojo to finally make the committment to a weight-loss plan and it's a MAJOR relief to find Medifast. Okay, maybe she jumped the gun a little in going off on Medifast instead of the Canadian gov't regulatory system. But Jeez. The girl's consuming less than 1,000 calories a day give her a break!.

Sounds to me like there are a lot of high-and-mighty types who could have chosen just as easily to gently explain what was going on and some possible resolutions without all the attitude...

I don't see how this is MF's faultseems like you should be mad at your government, not MF. I don't understand what you wanted Medifast to do? Call all potential customers in Canada? Laws change. But of course I feel for you and hope you work something out. This is such a perfect plan for so many people...

Oh dear...did anyone happen to note that this thread originally posted on 5/31 & the final comment was on 6/6 which was.....

This has been discussed, hashed, rehashed, debated, commisserated, empathized, sympathized, rated, berated, and now resurrected....

And hopefully the original poster did find a way to get her Medifast into Canada, because she was still posting on MyMedifast as recent as August..

Can there really be anything new to add?..

Thanks for pointing out the date of the post. Now I feel silly...
